George Lucas endows three teachers at USC

Filmmaker George Lucas returned to his alma mater on Thursday (13Mar14) to endow three moviemakers and teachers at the University of South California. The Star Wars director feted Bruce Block, Michael Fink and Alex McDowell with chair endowments at the School of Cinematic Arts.
Speaking to the crowd, he said, “The reason this is happening is because I’m pursuing my own agenda about the school and what I think it should teach.
“Don’t forget the basics. Don’t get enamoured with new technology, because it’s not new. Just the medium we’re working in is new, but that doesn’t change anything. The art of what we do is exactly the same. It’s beyond technology. It’s the art of movies.”
The ceremony comes weeks after Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson donated $25 million (£15.6 million) to a private school in Chicago, Illinois through their organisation The George Lucas Family Foundation.
