Welcome to country music, circa 2000: George “Wrangler Jeans” Strait wins an award Thursday night for helping promote his industry in TV commercials. Hee haw.
The Impact Award was one of a field-best five that no-show Strait picked up at the TNN Awards in Nashville. He also was honored for best entertainer, best male singer, best album (“Always Never The Same”) and best single (“Write This Down”).
Faith Hill was named top female vocalist; the Dixie Chicks, best duo or group.

Newcomer Brad Paisley (“He Didn’t Have to Be”) was the other big winner, scoring three wins.
