Gina Rodriguez shared an emotional farewell to TV show Jane The Virgin which ended on Wednesday (July 31, 2019).
The 35-year-old actress shared her thoughts ahead of the series finale, as the show, which first aired in 2014, came to end after 100 episodes.
“Jane the Virgin,” Gina wrote on Instagram. “Wow. We started shooting the first season of Jane in July 2014. A few days into shooting I turned 30 on set. Yesterday I turned 35. And today is the very last episodes, 99 and 100 airing of Jane The Virgin.”
“Five years of love, laughter, growth, pain, surprises, deaths, new births and a s**t ton of memories,” she continued. “To my warriors who have supported me from day one, Thank you. I am able to live out my dream career because of you and I will never stop making art to bring Joy and Laughter into your home/train ride/plane ride or classroom! Art is my savior. Art is what makes me feel like I can fly.”
She added: “Thank you to (showrunner) Jennie (Snyder Urman) for making me your Jane and to the incredible cast for becoming my family. I will always love you Jane… by (sic) my mentor and one of the best in the biz @bradsilberling.”
Ahead of the final episode airing, Gina’s co-star Justin Baldoni also paid tribute to the actress on her birthday with a flashback snap of Jane and his character Rafael Solano. The photo shows Jane uncharacteristically dressed up as a dominatrix whipping a bent over Rafael in a departure from their wholesome images.
“Since I always write super deep/ emotional captions about how much I love and appreciate you (@hereisgina) – I thought today for your 35th birthday I would post this,” he captioned the photo. “And let all of our fans know that when we shot this scene, you did in fact whip me (very hard) and yes it hurt.”
