Granger Smith discovered yoga and meditation after stage fall injury

Country star Granger Smith has discovered the benefits of yoga and meditation after using the practices to aid his recovery from a nasty stage fall last year (16).
The If the Boot Fits singer was performing at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey on 2 December (16), when a monitor the 37-year-old was standing on collapsed, causing him to fall onto a metal barricade.
Smith played through the pain to finish the show, but was subsequently hospitalised with two broken ribs and a collapsed lung, and had to cancel the remainder of his 2016 tour dates to recover from the accident.
The Texas musician is now back on the road, but he admits recuperating from the horrific mishap was tough because for the first few weeks, he could barely move.
He decided to research how a top professional American footballer would handle a recovery from injury, and modelled his comeback on that to get him back on his feet in time for a 14 January (17) gig.
“From the moment I hit the couch, I had exactly six weeks to the next goal, so I thought, what would an NFL quarterback do?” he recalled to People.com. “I dove into literature about it and documentaries, which led me to all kinds of things.”
In addition to his regular physical therapy sessions, Smith began doing yoga and found the breathing exercises worked wonders for him.
“That got me into all kinds of things about finding happiness and finding peace,” he explained, revealing he has since incorporated meditation into his daily routine.
The mental and spiritual makeover, coupled with his physical rehabilitation, has left Smith feeling fitter than ever.
He said, “I feel great, full motion, and now looking back on this time, I’m better because of (the accident) in a lot of ways.”
And he has now added a pre-show prayer circle routine to give thanks to God for “giving us this opportunity”.
“We’d never done it before, and everyone loves it now,” he shared. “We enter the stage better men because of it, because we live more for the show, because all we really have is today.
“I knew that on that couch: All I had was then. You’re not guaranteed tomorrow. These are all things I’ve uncovered through this process.”
