Gravity soars to the top of the U.K. box office

Space drama Gravity has blasted to the top of the U.K. box office with an impressive $9.3 million (£6.2 million) in ticket sales in its opening weekend (08-10Nov13). The sci-fi thriller starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock soared past the competition, leaving Thor: The Dark World in second place with $4.4 million (£2.9 million).
British drama Philomena, starring Dame Judi Dench settled in third with $2.1 million (£1.4 million) ahead of Tom Hanks’ thriller Captain Phillips in fourth with $1.5 million (£1 million).
The top five is rounded out by animated movie Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 with $1.4 million (£946,924) in ticket sales.
