Greg Lake dies aged 69

British singer-songwriter Greg Lake has died aged 69.
The musician, a member of progressive, classic rock trio Emerson, Lake & Palmer and King Crimson, passed away on Wednesday (07Dec16) after a battle with cancer.
His manager Stewart Young confirmed the news of his death in a statement posted on the rocker’s personal website.
“Yesterday December 7th I lost my best friend to a long and stubborn battle with cancer,” Young’s statement read. “Greg Lake will stay in my heart forever, as he always has been. His family would be grateful for privacy during this time of grief.”
He first found success in King Crimson, with their 1969 album In the Court of the Crimson King charting in the U.K. and U.S.
The rocker later joined keyboardist Keith Emerson and drummer Carl Palmer as the supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer, releasing a string of hit records between 1970 and 1994.
Lake also had success as a solo artist with his song I Believe in Father Christmas reaching number two in the U.K. chart and becoming a festive favourite.
The news comes nine months after Lake’s bandmate Emerson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, coroners in the US said.
