Guy Pearce still can’t believe he’s a father

Guy Pearce still finds it difficult to believe that he’s a father.

The 50-year-old star met Game of Thrones actress Carice van Houten while they were filming the movie Brimstone in 2015, shortly after he divorced his wife of 18 years, Kate Mestitz.

Guy and Carice welcomed a son named Monte Pearce in August 2016, and the actor has now confessed that, after years of claiming that he would never have a child, he still finds it hard to understand his role as a parent.

“I wasn’t planning to have a child, it’s a huge turnabout for me. My heart is really in it but my head is still wondering what is going on,” he told Metro. “Probably by the time he’s 15 I might be able to believe he’s my child on some kind of intellectual level. Of course, he’s my child! I just mean on some level it doesn’t seem quite real.”

Back in 2016, the Australian actor announced that Carice had given birth to a son on Twitter, and joked: “A cute little package arrived and told us his name’s Monte Pearce. We think we’re gonna keep him. Placenta smoothie anyone?”

Guy, who stars in new Netflix drama series The Innocents, also recently revealed that executives at the streaming service have banned him from using the word “binge” while promoting the show.

“I don’t think Netflix likes the term ‘binge,'” he told Empire magazine’s podcast. “When we did the promotion for (The Innocents) in the U.S., we were strictly sort of instructed beforehand not to talk about ‘binge-watching.'”
