Gwyneth Paltrow: ‘Acting has taken a backseat to Goop’

Gwyneth Paltrow has given up acting to fully focus her attention on Goop – for now.

The Oscar-winning actress admits she won’t be away from the screen forever, but for the time being she’s ploughing all of her energies into her lifestyle website.

And with the recent news she’s also teaming up with Anna Wintour to launch a quarterly magazine, the company has never needed the mother-of-two more.

“As much as I thought ‘I can do everything, I can run my company and then go to Louisiana and do a movie,’ I can’t, especially with having kids, there’s just no way,” Gwyneth said at Fast Company Magazine’s third annual FC/LA: A Meeting of the Most Creative Minds panel event. “I’ve been doing little things here and there because…I do think that does help our brand and how we’re trying to grow.

“But I also don’t want it to. I want Goop to not rely on me so much, so we’re thinking about when we scale do we need to leverage me for this product line or do we not. If we have a paid asset without me that outperforms one with my face, I do jumping jacks. I grew up in an acting family…but right now, I just like this better.”

Gwyneth hasn’t appeared on cinema screens since 2015 flop Mortdecai, though she is slated to star in film 33 dias, about artist Pablo Picasso, and TV movie One Hit Wonders. However compared to her formerly packed filming schedule, she has certainly scaled back her Hollywood commitments.

The 44-year-old, who shares daughter Apple, 13, and 11-year-old Moses with ex-husband Chris Martin, launched her successful lifestyle brand in 2008, starting with a weekly newsletter. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength, though the advice dished out on Goop, such as an article praising vaginal steaming, often draws criticism.

“I’m interested in criticism based on fact, not on projections,” Gwyneth stated. “If you want to f**k with me, bring your A game.”
