Gwyneth Paltrow: ‘I wasn’t scared of Harvey Weinstein’

Gwyneth Paltrow felt a duty to to stand up to Harvey Weinstein when they worked together.

The 46-year-old actress is one of more than 80 women to accuse Weinstein of sexual misconduct, dating back to her days as a young actress who starred in several successful projects under his Miramax banner.

Paltrow, who has claimed her then-boyfriend Brad Pitt once threatened the shamed movie mogul over alleged harassment, says she wasn’t scared of the 66-year-old despite his fearsome reputation as a man who could make or break careers.

“He was a bully,” she told Variety magazine. “I never had a problem standing up to him. I wasn’t scared of him. I also felt for a period of time, I was the consumer face of Miramax, and I felt it was my duty to push back against him. We had a lot of fights.”

Their biggest success, Shakespeare in Love, won seven awards, including Best Actress for Paltrow, at the 1999 Oscars, cementing the producer’s status as one of Hollywood’s most powerful figures.

However, Weinstein fell from grace in 2017 after reports in The New Yorker magazine and New York Times uncovered his alleged sexual assault and harassment victims. He is now facing trial over five sexual assault charges, including one of rape, but denies all allegations of non-consensual sex.

Paltrow famously thanked Weinstein during her teary acceptance speech, but doesn’t believe his link to the film tarnishes its greatness.

“It’s a beautiful film,” she stated. “A movie is not going to be successful if it’s not a good movie, not like that.”

And the actress is still so proud of the movie that her husband Brad Falchuk referenced it in their vows when they wed last year (18).

“I hope this isn’t too personal,” she revealed. “But in my husband’s wedding vows, he actually said it’s no coincidence that I played this muse, because that’s who I am to him, and his perception is that’s who I am in real life. It was really sweet.”
