Gwyneth Paltrow to retire Marvel Universe character

Gwyneth Paltrow is planning to retire her Marvel Universe character after Avengers: Endgame.
The actress has played Pepper Potts, the secretary and girlfriend to Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man character since 2008, and now she is ready to gracefully bow out of the Avengers franchise after the new film is released later this year (19).
“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” she tells Variety. “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friends with (Iron Man director) Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to the fans.”
However, she is open to making a cameo as Pepper, if asked.
“I feel honoured to be a part of something that people are so passionate about,” she adds. “Of course, if they said, ‘Can you come back for a day?’, I will always be there if they need me.”
Gwyneth is proud to be a part of a superhero movie franchise that is beginning to get noticed by Oscars voters, with Marvel movie Black Panther winning a Best Picture nomination ahead of Sunday’s (24Feb19) Academy Awards, but admits few of her earlier films would be green-lighted in Hollywood today.
“I think that the movies and the business around them have changed so much in the last 20 years,” she says. “I don’t think any of the movies I’m known for would get made today.”
