Hacker releases Orange Is the New Black episodes online

A hacker has released all 10 episodes of the new season of Orange Is The New Black online.
The anonymous hacker threatened Netflix on Friday (28Apr17), after claiming to have obtained the upcoming fifth season, starring Laverne Cox, Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba, due for release on 9 June (17).
The hacker, who uses the handle “thedarkoverlord”, asked the streaming service for an undisclosed amount of money, according to Variety.
Netflix executives have confirmed the breach is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“We are aware of the situation. A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved,” a representative said in statement on Friday.
The hacker released the first 10 episodes of season five on file-sharing site The Pirate Bay on Saturday (29Apr17), Variety reports. The premiere episode of the upcoming season was uploaded on Friday.
Piracy news website TorrentFreak also reports that the hacker has obtained unreleased shows from U.S. networks ABC, Fox, National Geographic and IFC. The content appears to have been stolen in an attack on post-production studio Larson Studios late last year (16).
In a message posted on Saturday, “thedarkoverlord” goaded Netflix for failing to meet demands.
“It didn’t have to be this way, Netflix. You’re going to lose a lot more money in all of this than what our modest offer was,” the hacker wrote.
“We’re quite ashamed to breathe the same air as you. We figured a pragmatic business such as yourselves would see and understand the benefits of cooperating with a reasonable and merciful entity like ourselves.”
The hacker also confirmed they had threatened other networks, and signed off: “And to the others: there’s still time to save yourselves. Our offer(s) are still on the table – for now.”
