Hailey Baldwin took ‘secret selfies’ at Met Gala

Hailey Baldwin snuck her phone into the Met Gala so she could take selfies with friends at the star studded fashion event.
Featuring a flurry of silver, lustrous and futuristic looks, the fashion elite gathered Monday night (02May16) for the Met Museum’s annual black tie extravaganza.
This year’s Costume Institute ball theme was the idea of “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” exploring the relationship between clothes created by hand (or “manus”) versus the machine.
As expected with a technology-tied theme, metallic accents paired with sleek, slick-backed hairstyles featured prominently on the night.
Hailey, 19, looked stunning in a floor length black and silver striped gown by Tommy Hilfiger, with a side split. She paired the sparkling dress with strappy black satin platform heels as well as simple make-up and a chic high ponytail.
Given the theme of the event, Hailey wasn’t afraid to admit that she couldn’t live without her cell phone and has a flawless solution for taking photos at the event, despite the “no phones” rule.
“I don’t think they want anything getting out or being seen before,” she told Popsugar.com. “Of course, we all take selfies and takes pics (and post them later).”
Hailey adds that while she expected to see fashion’s biggest names at the event, she was most looking forward to chatting with Master of None star Aziz Ansari, who was sitting at her table.
She also explained that she doesn’t really get star struck, although she comes close when she sees Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue.
“You don’t even get start struck (when you are near Anna), she’s just legendary,” said Hailey.
Elsewhere, top models turned to Balmain for their Met Gala looks. Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing outfitted supermodel Cindy Crawford in a long-sleeved silver gown with shoulder cutouts, letting the dress stand out by accessorising with sleek tresses and diamond earrings.
Though the majority of the Kardashian-Jenner clan sported some variation on the Balmain look, the women who truly took it to the next level were Rousteing’s multi-generational model muses. Jourdan Dunn, Doutzen Kroes, and Alessandra Ambrosio all looked beautiful long-sleeved, skin tight glimmering Balmain gowns. Jourdan’s liquid metal cutout number channelled Fritz Lang’s film Metropolis with its android undertones, while Alessandra’s steel corsetry added drama to her gown. Opting for the Balmain version of understated, Doutzen wore an ivory column with elegant cutouts that proved Rousteing can do minimalism with the best of them.
