Halle Berry unsure about a female Bond

Actress Halle Berry is not a fan of casting a female James Bond because the iconic spy franchise is “steeped in history”.
The Monster’s Ball beauty famously played a Bond girl in 2002’s Die Another Day, starring opposite Pierce Brosnan as 007, and although the Oscar winner is all for having more female-driven action movies, she isn’t sure the classic super sleuth tales are the right fit.
“I want (women) to be tough but I don’t know if Bond should be a woman,” Halle confessed to U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, that series is steeped in history, you know, (author) Ian Fleming’s stories. I don’t think you can change Bond to a woman.”
Instead, Halle wants screenwriters to come up with ideas for a new movie series centred around a strong female character.
She explained, “We can create a new Bond character that’s a woman, and give her a new name… but I don’t know if Bond should be a woman.”
Halle’s comments emerge after Chris Hemsworth insisted his Snow White and the Huntsman co-star Charlize Theron would be the perfect person to take over the coveted role from current James Bond, Daniel Craig.
“I love her, she is incredible and has all the wit, humour, charm, passion, skill, everything to pull that off (portraying Bond),” Chris told U.S. show Extra of Charlize, who shows off her spy skills in new movie Atomic Blonde. “(I think it’s) beyond time.”
However, a flattered Charlize subsequently brushed off Chris’ high praise, admitting she would actually prefer Idris Elba to become the first black Bond.
Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con last month (Jul17), she said, “I’m in favour of having an Agent 007 that is female, but I leave that for now for Daniel or Idris.”
Casting a new Bond will have to wait as Daniel has officially signed on for the next 007 movie, which will hit theatres in November, 2019.
