Harrison Ford: ’60th Birthday Changed My Life’

Harrison Ford has spoken out for the first time about the ‘mid-life crisis’ he suffered following his 60th birthday.

The Indiana Jonesr left his wife Melissa Mathison and began dating much younger actress Calista Flockhart shortly after the landmark.

And while he refuses to use the words ‘mid-life crisis’, Ford acknowledges entering his seventh decade had a profound impact on his life.

He says, “I am not the first man who wanted to make changes in his life at 60 and I won’t be the last. It is just that others can do it with anonymity.

“I was interested in changing my life. I have always had the ability to change and become other people through my acting. I took a good look at myself and decided I wanted something different from the way I was living.

“That’s not such a bad thing, is it? But, because of my past, I think it took a lot of people by surprise. They wondered what was happening to me.

“I was very much aware of what was happening. I’m living the way I want to live.”

Despite an age gap of 23 years–the Ally McBeal actress is 40–the couple have defied critics by making their relationship last three years.

Ford, who has four children from his two failed marriages to Mary Marquadt and Mathison, acts as a dad to Flockhart‘s 3-year-old adopted son Liam and won’t rule out more kids of his own.

He says, “I am quite happy with that. It’s fun to be around young kids. I have a couple of grandchildren with my older boys and perhaps there are already enough youngsters in my life, but you never know.”
