The futuristic thriller, based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling book, took in $4.8 million (£2.98 million) in its second week, while fantasy blockbuster Wrath of the Titans debuted second in the rundown with $3.5 million (£2.19 million).
Animated movie The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists was third with earnings of $3.5 million (£2.17 million), Jonah Hill’s cop comedy 21 Jump Street slipped two spots to fourth place, and new release Streetdance 2 rounded out the top five.
The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence as a competitor in a televised battle to the death, is making its mark across the world – it’s also the top title in the U.S. and Canada.
