Sir Ian Mckellen was honoured with a special degree from his alma mater in Cambridge, England on Wednesday (18Jun14). The Lord of the Rings star, 75, won a scholarship to study English literature at Britain’s prestigious Cambridge University when he was 18 years old and he returned to his former college on Wednesday to pick up a doctorate.
McKellen donned a cap and gown to be named an honorary Doctor of Letters for his services to acting. He received the same title from the University of Ulster in Ireland last year (13).
