The New York Rangers star reportedly argued with police who arrived at his Hollywood Hills home, responding to a noise complaint from a neighbour, early on Friday (05Aug11).
The 31 year old is accused of pushing one of the officers and slamming the door in his face.
Following the confrontation, additional officers were called to the home and Avery was eventually was taken into custody.
He is being held on suspicion of battery, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Avery has had problems with his infamous confrontational attitude and signed up for anger-management classes following a statement he made about a rival player before a 2008 game.
He was suspended by the National Hockey League after he told a reporter that a Calgary Flames player who was dating Cuthbert, his ex, was “falling in love with sloppy seconds”.
