Ricky Martin asked Antonio D’Amico not to judge Versace TV series on paparazzi pictures

Ricky Martin implored Gianni Versace’s former lover not to judge the upcoming TV series about the designer’s murder on any paparazzi pictures he might see.
Antonio D’Amico, who was with Versace for 15 years before he was shot dead outside his Florida home in 1997, blasted American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, claiming the recreation of Versace’s death was inaccurate, judging by paparazzi pictures he had seen from the set.
Ricky, who plays D’Amico in the show, previously defended the series by revealing he spoke to D’Amico on the phone and he was happy with Ricky’s intentions for the character.
The singer has now opened up further to Ocean Drive magazine, admitting he had actually asked him to hold off judgement until he’d seen the recreation in context.
Ricky said, “I said, ‘Antonio, listen, maybe you’ve seen a couple of paparazzi shots of the actual scenes that we’re shooting, but please don’t judge the quality of it just by one picture because it could easily be taken out of context. You have to see what we’re doing, and you’re going to be so pleased with everything.'”
The 45-year-old jumped at the opportunity to work with producer Ryan Murphy again following a guest stint on Glee and felt honoured to be able to bring Versace’s story to life alongside Edgar Ramirez.
“We’re treating this story with a lot of respect and are really serious about it. I’m so happy with the results,” he explained. “It’s very dramatic and powerful, but you will also see a lot of love. The love between Antonio and Gianni was a very beautiful one.”
Although Ricky had lived in Miami for 15 years, he had never gone inside the Versace Mansion, which still has the same decor as when Versace lived there and now serves as a boutique hotel.
Recalling filming there, he said, “I felt Gianni’s presence everywhere. I’m not trying to be spooky here, but his art and his taste is everywhere in the house. It helped us a lot.”
