Injury blights British skiing show

A British reality TV show which pits celebrities against each other on the ski slopes has been blighted by injury after a fourth star dropped out. Winter sports show The Jump lost another competitor this week (beg27Jan14) when model/TV star Melinda Messenger suffered concussion while practising for a bobsleigh event. She has withdrawn from the series just hours after another competitor, Henry Conway, withdrew after breaking a bone.
Flash Gordon star Sam J. Jones was previously forced to exit the show before it went to air after injuring his shoulder in a ski jump, while socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson also dropped out.
A spokesperson for Channel 4, the U.K. network behind the show, insists safety precautions are paramount to protect the celebrity competitors: “The health and safety of those taking part in The Jump is the highest priority and all contributors are provided with necessary safety equipment to use during training and events. Safety equipment is mandatory during events.”
Other famous faces who remain in the competition include singer Joe McElderry, who was drafted in to replace Conway, and pop stars Kimberly Wyatt and Ritchie Neville.
