Ioan Gruffudd gets ego boost with new TV job

Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd’s ego has been given a boost after landing a lead role in a new U.S. TV series, weeks after confessing he has been seeing a psychologist to help him deal with multiple job rejections. The Fantastic Four star, 40, opened up about his audition struggles in a candid interview last month (Jan14), revealing his confidence has “really taken a knock” in recent years after the Hollywood offers started to dry up.
The father of two said, “I’m auditioning for dozens of parts at the moment, but I’m just not getting them. I can’t play someone who’s 30 anymore… maybe 35 at a push. So it’s difficult, especially when have to provide for your family – and, unfortunately, I’m the one shouldering all that responsibility right now.”
However, Gruffudd’s acting prospects are now looking up – he has been cast as immortal New York medical examiner Dr. Henry Morgan in new sci-fi/crime drama Forever.
The series is expected to air on America’s ABC network, although a premiere date has yet to be set.
News of Gruffudd’s new job emerges as movie executives prepare to reboot the Fantastic Four franchise with a whole new cast. That Awkward Moment actor Miles Teller has been tipped to take over Gruffudd’s role as Dr. Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in the film revamp, alongside Kate Mara as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as her brother Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
