It surpasses The Exorcist to become North America’s biggest horror movie ever

The It movie revamp has become North America’s highest-grossing horror film in box office history.
The new adaptation of the Stephen King thriller, starring Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, the scary clown who haunts a small town, hit theatres for previews on 7 September (17), before its wide release on 8 September (17).
It broke multiple records as it debuted at number one during its opening weekend, scoring the highest-grossing horror film debut in history with $117.2 million (£86.8 million), as well as securing the title of the biggest September opening ever at the North American box office.
The remake, directed by Andy Muschietti, has continued to scare up a storm, and on Thursday (21Sep17), it officially surpassed The Exorcist to snag the honour of the biggest horror film release in North American history with a total to date of $236.3 million (£175 million).
The Exorcist’s 1973 original and its two subsequent director’s cut re-releases helped the supernatural thriller bank $232.9 million (£172.6 million) domestically, according to TheWrap.com.
It’s continued success is all great news for Muschietti, who has already started work on a follow-up.
