J. J. Abrams launching indie music label

J.J. Abrams‘ production company Bad Robot is launching an indie music label called Loud Robot.

The Star Trek director’s company has partnered with Capitol Music Group for the new venture, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The label will function independently, but Bad Robot will be able to place its original music in their film, TV and game projects.

Loud Robot will be headed up by co-general managers Nicky Berger, founder of Berger Management, McKee Floyd, who previously worked on marketing campaigns for Mumford & Sons and Childish Gambino with the Glassnote Entertainment Group, and Charles Scott, who currently heads Bad Robot’s music division. He has also been the leading music supervisor for some of the company’s films and TV shows.

Capitol Music Group will help fund the venture and provide Loud Robot with its resources and access to its global distribution platform.

Abrams, who serves as chairman and co-chief executive officer of Bad Robot alongside his wife Katie McGrath, founded the production company in 1998. Their productions include films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Cloverfield and its spin-offs, the rebooted Star Trek franchise, and the last three Mission: Impossible movies, as well as TV shows like Lost and Westworld.

In June (18), the company announced it was expanding into gaming with the launch of Bad Robot Games.
