Jackman linked to Les Miserables role

The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper is working on a new film version of the classic stage show, which is based on the 1862 book of the same name by Victor Hugo, and X-Men star Jackman is in talks to tackle a main role, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Australian actor, who has a background in musical theatre, recently admitted he has “always wanted to do a movie musical” and deeply regrets turning down a part in the Oscar-winning 2002 film version of Chicago.

Les Miserables has previously been adapted for a number of films including a 1998 version starring Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush and Uma Thurman. The new movie is due to begin filming in Europe later this year (11).
