James Bond edges out cowboy Woody to become Britain’s second biggest box office banker

According to newly-released figures, Skyfall now trails only Avatar at the domestic box office thanks to a gross of $118 million (£74.3 million).

The new 007 adventure snagged $1.9 million (£1.2 million) on Tuesday evening alone, according to estimates from Sony, taking the film from fifth place to second.

The new Bond film still has some way to go to pass Avatar – the 2009 sci-fi drama grossed $149 million (£94 million) in Britain.
