Jane Fonda Never Anticipated She’d Live to 80

Jane Fonda never anticipated that she would live such a long and fruitful life.

The actress and activist celebrated her 80th birthday on 21 December (17), and remains active in Hollywood, recently shooting the fourth season of Netflix show Grace and Frankie as well as appearing in movie Our Souls at Night with Robert Redford.

While most people hope to stay as youthful and energetic as Jane in their mature years, she has now revealed that she is surprised to have lived so long.

“I never pictured 30,” she told People magazine, when asked what it’s like to reach the milestone age. “I assumed I wouldn’t live very long and that I would die lonely and an addict of some sort. I didn’t think if I did live this long, that I would be vibrant and healthy and still working. I’m grateful.”

Over the years, Jane has suffered periods of personal turmoil and has spoken openly about her battle with eating disorder bulimia and poor self-image. In spite of winning two Oscars, the star is adamant that her greatest personal achievements are her children, acting as a health advocate and learning to forgive others.

“I’m thankful that I’ve gotten better over the 80 years,” she added. “I’m less judgmental. I’m forgiving. It wasn’t always true. I’ve really worked hard to get better as a human being.”
