Actor Jason Momoa is jumping into action to bring hit video game Just Cause to life on the big screen.
The Game of Thrones star will reteam with his Frontier series producer/director Brad Peyton for the new movie, which will feature Jason as lead character Rico Rodriguez, an operative for a secretive organization known as the Agency.
Few other plot details have been released, but San Andreas filmmaker Peyton will direct from a script by Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World writer John Collee, reports Deadline.com.
The Square Enix video game, developed by experts at Sweden’s Avalanche Studios, first rose to popularity in 2006, and has since spawned two sequels, with Just Cause 3 being released in December, 2015.
It’s the latest film adaptation Momoa is working on – he is also starring as DC Comics’ Aquaman in the forthcoming Justice League, as well as a standalone movie about the underwater superhero.
He made his debut in the role in a brief scene for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice last year (16), and will begin shooting the Aquaman movie this spring (17), ahead of a late 2018 release.
In the meantime, fans will get to see Momoa as the King of Atlantis later this year (17) in the new Justice League film, opposite Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
Momoa recently revealed he was cast as Aquaman in the comic book film franchise years ago, but had to keep the gig a secret from his friends and family.
“I knew I had the role in late 2012 or early 2013,” Momoa, who spent months denying the role, told The Hollywood Reporter in January (17).
“I was trying to get any role I could, and not having much luck. So, knowing what your future is going to be in the next five or six years and having to keep your mouth shut is brutal.”
