Jay-Z didn’t sleep for two days after Trayvon Martin verdict

Jay-Z was so disgusted by the controversial verdict in America’s Trayvon Martin case, his bubbling anger kept him awake for two days. Neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman was acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges after fatally shooting the 17 year old black teen in Florida in 2012.
A number of stars have since denounced the jury’s decision, while the rapper and his singer wife Beyonce were among those who took to the streets during a demonstration in New York City on Saturday (20Jul13).
The 99 Problems hitmaker has now revealed he didn’t sleep for 48 hours after Zimmerman’s acquittal, and is shocked by what he sees as America’s ongoing racial issues.
He says, “I was angry. I didn’t sleep for two days. We all knew there was still a bit of racism in America but for it to be so blatant…
“(The) old guard and their old ideas and their stubborn ways and all that ego and that bulls**t is still there, it still exists. You just hate to believe that.”
However, Jay-Z is adamant most young people don’t harbour the same hatred as older generations, adding, “This generation right now, they don’t see colour in that way. We’re a bit removed from those racist feelings because again, it’s hard to teach racism when your child is out (at) clubs. It’s integrated and the music we listen to is the same.”
