Jay Z launching clothing collection for charity

Rapper Jay Z is teaming up with designers at U.S. luxury clothing retailer Barney’s for his first curated fashion line. The 99 Problems hitmaker’s A New York Holiday collection will include limited-edition products from designers such as Balenciaga, Alexander Wang and Balmain and will range in price from $70 (£46) to $33,000 (£22,000).
He tells WWD.com, “With this project, Barneys New York and I were able to take the slickness, energy and innovation of New York City and translate that into quality, timeless pieces.
“Everything that encompasses ‘New York Holiday’ – the items chosen, the amazing designers that participated, the windows, the design of the BNY SCC Gallery – represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me.”
Jay Z’s selections will hit stores on 20 November (13) and 25 per cent of sales will benefit his Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, which provides college scholarships to underprivileged individuals.
