Screenwriter Justin Theroux proposed to the former Friends star during his 41st birthday celebrations on Friday (10Aug12) – and she said yes.
A representative for Theroux confirmed the engagement to People.com on Sunday, but when Celebuzz.com reporters called Jennifer’s dad for a statement, skeptical Days of Our Lives actor John Aniston insisted he knew nothing of his daughter’s plans to wed, saying, “It’s the first I’ve heard about it. It’s a surprise to me.”
The 79 year old’s comment suggested the Iron Man 2 screenwriter had failed to ask his fiancee’s father for her hand in marriage. But a spokesperson has now clarified John’s remarks, insisting he only faked ignorance to safeguard the secret.
A rep tells UsMagazine.com, “(He) thought he was being trapped on the phone so (he) played dumb to be safe.”
