Jennifer Hudson still gets nervous on American Idol elimination night

Jennifer Hudson’s anxiety is triggered by the sound of TV presenter Ryan Seacrest’s voice because it takes her back to the American Idol elimination rounds.
The Dreamgirls star scored her big break as a finalist on the original run of the hit talent show back in 2004, and even though she has since become an Oscar and Grammy winner, Jennifer confesses she still gets nervous for no reason on a weekly basis, particularly when she hears the Idol host’s voice.
“It’s your voice, because think about it: you used to be like, ‘And the person who’s going home this week is…,'” Jennifer explained as she sat down for an interview on Seacrest’s morning show Live with Kelly and Ryan.
“Every Wednesday, to this day, I still get nervous. And I’d be like, ‘Why do I feel this way? Oh, it’s elimination night!'” she laughed. “So hearing your voice kinda sends me back, although you were one of my favourite things from being on the show, to this day.”
And Jennifer admits she is continually approached by fans who were rooting for her on the show.
“I have people come up to me on the street, like, ‘I voted for you on American Idol,’ and I’m like, ‘You do realise that was 15 years ago? I was 22, I’m 37 now!'”
The singer/actress is now hoping to give aspiring artists the same opportunities she had on Idol by serving as a coach on rival show The Voice.
Jennifer made her debut on season 13 last year (17), and returned to join fellow former Idol favourite, Kelly Clarkson, on the panel for the current season 15, which kicked off in late September (18).
