Jennifer Lawrence lightened up the mood on the Mother! shoot by singing Christmas songs.
The Oscar-winning actress is currently promoting the psychological horror film, in which she stars as young woman whose tranquil life with her older husband, as portrayed by Javier Bardem, at their country home is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious couple.
Directed by Jennifer’s boyfriend Darren Aronofsky, Mother! delves into some dark themes, and the star admitted during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night (12Sep17) that she found festive songs the best way to cope with the scary scenes.
“After I would do a scene, or if we were doing rehearsals – any time I didn’t want to feel too much, or if I was feeling something gross, and I wanted to get out of it, I would listen to Bruce Springsteen’s Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” she said. “So, I’d be like crying on a like an apple box in the corner like, ‘Santa Claus is coming to town. You’d better watch out, you’d better not cry.'”
The 27-year-old also explained that she requested the producers set her up with a “happy tent” so she could get some space away from set. And Jennifer used to sit in the area and watch reality TV show
Keeping Up with the Kardashians to distract her from the most challenging sequences in the script.
“I had to do this scene, I had never gone that dark before. I started getting scared a couple of days before and I was like I need a tent, just to be away from all of the extras, because I didn’t know what I would do,” the actress sighed.
Meanwhile, Jennifer also explained that she’s tried her best to remain tight-lipped about the content of the film. But she’s still really worried about what her family will think when they attend a screening soon.
“My whole family is going to see it tomorrow, and I’m really scared, I’m really worried about my brother seeing it,” she said. “My brother is really sensitive to scary things, he can’t even watch the trailer!”
