Jennifer Lopez: ‘I was homeless at 18’

Singer/actress Jennifer Lopez was homeless as a teenager and slept on a couch in her dance studio before she landed her big break. The On The Floor hitmaker has revealed her living situation took a desperate turn when she moved out of her family home after arguing with her mother over her career choices when she was just 18.
However, Lopez’s gamble paid off and she went on to find fame on U.S. TV show In Living Color as part of The Fly Girls dance troupe.
She tells W magazine, “My mum and I butted heads. I didn’t want to go to college, I wanted to try dance full-time. So she and I had a break. I started sleeping on the sofa in the dance studio. I was homeless, but I told her, ‘This is what I have to do’.
“A few months later, I landed a job dancing in Europe. When I got back, I booked In Living Color. I became a Fly Girl and moved to L.A. It all happened in a year.”
Lopez was honoured for her long-running entertainment career last month (Jun13) when she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.
