Jerry Sharell hospitalised after machete attack

Music mogul-turned-DJ Jerry Sharell is in a critical condition in hospital after he was stabbed during a machete attack at his girlfriend’s home in Los Angeles. Sharell, who is in his 70s, was allegedly taken hostage along with his partner during an incident at her home in Woodland Hills on Sunday night (15Sep13). He was stabbed several times in the neck and head, and was admitted to a local hospital where he is said to be in a critical but stable condition.
The woman was also injured in the attack, before the man wielding the machete turned the weapon on himself. He is also in a critical but stable condition, according to KABC-TV Los Angeles. The suspect, believed to be a former partner of the woman involved in the attack, has been arrested and remains in police custody at the hospital.
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Sergeant Jeff Nuttal says, “Over… three hours, it appears that he (the suspect) held his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend hostage inside the residence. Sometime during that time, the new boyfriend had been stabbed repeatedly, and then the suspect turned the weapon on himself and stabbed himself.”
Sharell worked with artists including The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Queen and Motley Crue during his time in the music industry. He now presents a radio show in a Los Angeles station.
