Jerry Sharell’s alleged attacker charged with attempted murder

A man suspected of leaving music mogul-turned-DJ Jerry Sharell in a critical condition in hospital following a machete attack has been charged with attempted murder. Behnam Vasseghi is accused of taking Sharell and his partner hostage at her home in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles on Sunday night (15Sep13).
Vasseghi allegedly stabbed Sharell several times in the neck and head, before attacking the woman, his ex-wife, chopping off the tip of her nose before slashing his own wrists.
Both men ended up hospital after the bloody rampage, and on Tuesday (17Sep13), Vasseghi was charged with attempted murder, along with torture, criminal threats, false imprisonment and several other felony counts.
Sharell worked with artists including The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Queen and Motley Crue during his time in the music industry. He now presents a radio show on Los Angeles station KKJZ.
