Jess Glynne gave Little Mix track to celebrate them as ‘strong’ women

Jess Glynne gifted Little Mix their new track Woman Like Me as she is inspired by how they have become icons of female empowerment.
The Hold My Hand hitmaker wrote the song with Ed Sheeran and producer Steve Mac two years ago, and originally planned to keep it to herself as it was “personal” to her.
However, Jess eventually decided it would be better for The X Factor U.K. alumni as she feels they have risen from their reality show origins to become important role models for young women.
“They are an important group because they’re such strong girls and have come a long way since X Factor,” she explained in an interview with The Daily Star. “It is really empowering to see them doing so well and it was exciting to give them a song that meant a lot to me at a time in my life but now will mean a lot to them. Giving away such personal songs is weird, I haven’t really done it. But I feel that song is relevant to them now more than me.”
Woman Like Me, which features rap vocals from Nicki Minaj, looks set to reach number one in the U.K. as it was the top-selling song in the midweek update issued by Britain’s Official Charts Company on Monday (15Oct18).
Little Mix’s new album, titled LM5, will be released next month, with the record set to delve into a wide range of topics.
“We haven’t written anything that’s too controversial before, and now we’re starting to write things that are slightly more honest,” bandmember Jade Thirlwall recently shared in a chat with Vice magazine’s Noisey website. “We want to be a bit more ballsy and say, ‘Yeah, it is hard to be a woman.'”
The group have been involved with the writing of the album – and have even co-written one track, Woman’s World, about the #MeToo anti-sexual harassment movement.
