Jessica Simpson hoards clothes to preserve memories

Singer/actress Jessica Simpson keeps thousands of her old outfits stored in a warehouse because they’re all full of memories.
The star can’t bear to part with the ‘Daisy Dukes’ shorts she wore for her role in The Dukes of Hazzard, or any of the styles she has donned throughout her life, admitting she is too emotionally attached to apparel to get rid of anything.
“I’m a vintage buyer so I collect,” she explains to People magazine. “I have all my prom dresses. All my music video and movie outfits. I went to a lot of proms. That’s why we have a warehouse.”
Jessica, 36, plans to turn over her fashion stockpile to her four-year-old daughter Maxwell Drew when the little girl grows old enough to fit into mum’s old clothes.
“I’m a keeper for my daughter,” she shares. “All I want to do is keep everything. And everybody is like ‘Throw it out, throw it out.’ But I’m like, ‘No, it’s so important, this is the moment one guy gave me a rose…’ I have a lot of memories. I keep memories. The clothes are memories.”
Simpson is the owner of a billion-dollar namesake fashion line and the tastemaker is taking her obsession with preserving the historical significance of clothing to whole new levels.
Stepping out earlier this week (beg24Oct16) in dramatic black flare pants and a multi-coloured fur coat, the star confesses her inspiration for the flashback look was prompted by the “bell bottoms moment” she is currently having.
“They make your legs look skinny,” she says of the ’70s pants style. “I’ve been trying to push a bell bottom for so long. That’s all I ever wore in Dukes of Hazard. I just love a good flare jean, and I’ve been trying to push it with all our buyers and now finally they’ve picked up on the trend. So now I’m going to over exaggerate it as much as I can.”
