More than 20 of Jim Henson’s most famous puppets, including characters from The Muppet Show and Sesame Street, have been donated to America’s Smithsonian Institution. Relatives of the late puppet master made the donation to mark what would have been Henson’s 77th birthday on Tuesday (24Sep13).
The puppets have been given to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and the characters include Miss Piggy, who joins a previously donated Kermit the Frog, as well as Sesame Street’s Grover, Bert and Ernie, Cookie Monster and Elmo.
The Miss Piggy puppet will go on display at the museum in Washington, D.C. in March (14), and the Sesame Street pieces will reportedly be part of another exhibition planned for next year (14).
