Jimmy Kimmel’s Baby Son Billy Makes TV Debut After Heart Surgery

Jimmy Kimmel made an emotional return to television on Monday night (11Dec17) with his baby son Billy in his arms.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host took a week off to look after Billy, his second child with wife Molly McNearney, after the seven-month-old underwent the second of three operations he requires after being born with a rare congenital heart defect.

Returning to the show on Monday, Jimmy cradled his baby boy in his arms as he tearfully told the audience that the tot is doing well.

“I was out last week – because this guy had heart surgery. But look, he’s fine everybody, he may have pooped but he’s fine… Daddy cries on TV but Billy doesn’t. It’s unbelievable,” he told the audience.

Billy is doing great, by the way. He has one more surgery – this is amazing – he had an operation a week ago. They say he’ll probably be on track to win at least a bronze medal at the Olympics in 2036.”

Jimmy also used the opportunity to slam Congress for failing to approve funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which covers around nine million children in America.

“Now CHIP – (it) has become a bargaining chip. It’s on the back burner while they work out the new tax plans,” he said. “Parents of children with cancer, diabetes, and heart problems are about to get letters saying their coverage could be cut off next month. Merry Christmas, right?

“I don’t know what could be more disgusting than putting a tax cut that mostly goes to the rich ahead of the lives of children. This is literally a life and death program for American kids.”

He concluded his rant by urging viewers to call the House and Senate phone lines to demand Congress approve funding for CHIP in 2018.
