John Goodman and John Slattery returning to Broadway stage

John Goodman and John Slattery are heading back to the Broadway stage for a revival of comedy The Front Page.
The actors will appear in the revamp of Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur’s 1928 newspaper play, alongside Broadway regulars Nathan Lane, Jefferson Mays, Rosemary Harris, and Sherie Rene Scott.
The Front Page follows the antics of a reporter, played by Slattery, and his editor, portrayed by Lane, who hide an escaped prisoner in a bid to land an exclusive.
Moviemaker Scott Rudin will produce the show, which will be directed by Hairspray’s Jack O’Brien and begin previews in September (16), ahead of an October (16) opening.
The Front Page was previously adapted for the big screen in 1931. It also inspired Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell’s 1940 comedy His Girl Friday, reports Variety.com.
The new play marks Goodman’s first Broadway gig since he starred in a 2009 revival of Waiting for Godot, while Mad Men star Slattery last graced the New York stage in a 2006 production of Rabbit Hole.
