John Krasinski signs on for new Jack Ryan series

John Krasinski has reportedly signed up to star in the new Jack Ryan drama series on Amazon.
The Office star is set to front the show, based on Tom Clancy’s novels featuring the exploits of the CIA spy Ryan, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Graham Roland and Carlton Cuse, who between them have been involved with Fringe, The Returned, Lost and Bates Motel respectively, will develop the online series, which has reportedly been commissioned in full without the need for a pilot.
Michael Bay, who worked with Krasinski on this year’s (16) action drama 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, is among the show’s executive producers.
The drama series is being considered as a fresh take on the Jack Ryan character, with Clancy’s novels only serving as source material. Five movies starring the CIA hero have been made, with Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck among those starring as Jack Ryan.
The most recent movie – Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit – with Chris Pine as the all-action hero, was released back in 2014.
And Krasinski has existing ties to Amazon, Entertainment Weekly reports. He is one of the executive producers of indie film Manchester By The Sea, which was snapped up by the streaming service at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (16).
