John Schneider accused of possessing loan while failing to pay spousal support

Former The Dukes Of Hazzard star John Schneider has been accused of being in possession of a loan during the period he allegedly failed to pay his ex-wife spousal support.
Schneider’s former wife Elvira Castle, filed for divorce from the actor in 2014 after 21 years of marriage, and he was reportedly ordered to pay her almost $19,000 (£14,000) a month. She launched legal action against him after he allegedly failed to make the monthly payments from September 2016 to May 2017, and a judge found him guilty of contempt of court in January (18).
Elvira has now filed new court documents, obtained by The Blast, in which she accuses him of using their Louisiana property, which is the home of John Schneider Studios, as collateral to obtain a $875,000 loan (£630,000), which he allegedly hid during their divorce proceedings and could have used to pay her support.
“Indeed, Respondent now admits that during the time period for which he has been found in Contempt of Court for nonpayment of spousal support and fees, he was actually in possession of $875,000 given to him by the Federal government, from which he could have paid both support and fees,” the document states.
The estate was allegedly community property, but Schneider transferred it to a business he listed as a separate property. Elvira says she didn’t give her permission for him to do this, but he claims otherwise.
She also claims he tried to make it seem like the sprawling estate, which sits on 58 acres of land, wasn’t very valuable by comparing it to “a studio or 3 bedroom single family residence on less than 4 acres of land” but she believes it is worth $1.5 million (£1 million).
Elvira is currently asking a judge to make him sell the property and for profits of the sale to be split in half.
In February (18), Schneider was given until Wednesday (14Mar18) to get his finances in order, pay off the spousal support debt and transfer the deeds of their California home to Elvira.
