John Stamos is going to be a first-time dad at 54.
The handsome actor and his fiancee Caitlin McHugh, 31, announced the happy news to People magazine and explained that while they’d previously discussed starting a family, the timing now felt right and things fell into place.
“We have the same morals and the same values, that all clicked nicely. So we said, ‘Oh, well, maybe we should have a family,’” the actor beamed.
“(Caitlin suggested,)‘Maybe we should have a kid (before we get married)’ and I said, ‘Why?’”
To which his wife-to-be cheekily responded: “Because you’re old.”
“The look on John’s face when I told him we were pregnant was priceless,” smiled Caitlin. “It was the look of a man who has wanted a family of his own but wasn’t sure it was going to happen for him. Now it is!”
John and Caitlin became engaged in October (17), with John sharing the news with a sweet drawing on Instagram of the couple standing in front of Cinderella’s castle in Disneyland. They began dating in early 2016, but the relationship only became public knowledge in March of that year when John let it slip during an appearance on The View.
The baby news won’t come as shock to most fans though after the Full House star joked to People recently: “My ovaries are rattling. Do men have ovaries? They’re jingling. I can hear them jingling now.”
“This year has been about clearing my head, being healthy and getting my career on track,” he said in a separate interview. “I think everything will fall into place as long as I’m good, solid and spiritual.”
This is John’s second marriage; he was previously wed to actress Rebecca Romijn from 1998 to 2005.
