John Wayne’s How the West Was Won cavalry uniform up for auction

The cavalry uniform movie legend John Wayne wore in classic John Ford movie How The West Was Won is to be auctioned.
The outfit will go under the hammer at a Nate D. Sanders Auctions event on Thursday (25Jul19).
Wayne portrayed Union General William Tecumseh Sherman in the 1962 film, which was nominated for eight Academy Awards – including Best Picture and Best Costume Design.
“The outfit worn by Wayne closely models a mid-19th century U.S. Cavalry officer’s uniform, with three-quarter length navy blue wool jacket, brass buttons decorated with the American Eagle, and collar and cuffs trimmed in black velvet,” an auction house spokesman tells WENN. “The inside pocket contains a Western Costume label that reads in type ‘No.2643-1/Name: John Wayne’. A matching waistcoat also has the Western Costume label with Wayne’s name in type.”
Bidding on Wayne’s uniform will begin at $9,000 (£7,200).
