The director of Keanu Reeves’ John Wick movies once tried out as the actor’s stunt double on The Matrix.

Chad Stahelski reveals he almost worked with Reeves years before they got together for John Wick, and he explains how their paths almost crossed in an interview featured on the Blu-ray and DVD release of the action-packed sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2.

“I showed up in jeans and a T-shirt and I sort of walk into this warehouse in Burbank,” Chad recalls of his audition, during which he watched Keanu in rehearsals. “I met Keanu really briefly. Then I met (director brothers) the Wachowskis. And then I got put through a good 45 minute to an hour audition for the first Matrix.”

Chad missed out on the chance to become part of the first The Matrix film, but he went on to work as the martial arts stunt co-ordinator on The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.

He also appeared in blockbusters like The Hunger Games franchise, The Wolverine, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, TRON: Legacy, The Expendables, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 300, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Now an in-demand action film director, Chad is working on the revamped Highlander.
