John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum has taken down Avengers: Endgame to debut atop the North American box office.
Keanu Reeves’ latest outing as the titular assassin has shot to number one with a $57 million take, marking the best opening for the franchise to date.
The original 2014 film grossed $14.4 million in its first weekend, while John Wick: Chapter 2 launched with $30.4 million in 2017.
The strong start was enough for Chapter 3, which also proved a hit internationally with a $92.2 million global debut, to topple the Marvel superhero epic from the North American top spot after a three-week reign.
However, Endgame, which slips to number two, still pulled in a healthy $29.4 million during its fourth weekend on release.
It’s now earned $771 million to date in North America, surpassing Avatar to become the second-highest grossing movie in box office history, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which holds the title with $937 million, reports Variety.
Detective Pikachu, A Dog’s Journey, and The Hustle round out the new top five.
