Johnny Cash’s daughter opens new section of trail tribute

Johnny Cash’s daughter Cindy grew emotional on Saturday (14Oct17) as she honoured her late father at the opening of a new California trail.
Officials in the city of Folsom opened the first part of the 2.5 mile (four kilometre) Johnny Cash Trail in 2014, and the second section was unveiled over the weekend, when Cindy Cash was on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, an event which also featured two fun runs, a community bicycle ride, and a festival.
“If my dad could see all of you people here, 14 years after he died, he would say, ‘Why me? Why did everyone do this for me?’,” Cindy told the crowd as she recalled the country legend’s humble nature.
Authorities in Folsom, which inspired the name of Cash’s landmark 1968 album, At Folsom Prison, are also planning to install eight pieces of art at the site to help tell the singer’s story, according to The Sacramento Bee.
Cash died in 2003, aged 71.
Cindy, 58, is the musician’s child with his first wife Vivian Liberto. They shared a total of four daughters, including singer Roseanne Cash.
