Rowan Atkinson’s spy comedy took $5 million (£3.1 million), while The Lion King 3D stayed in second place with takings of $3 million (£1.9 million).
Orlando Bloom’s The Three Musketeers 3D made its debut at number three with $2.4 million (£1.5 million), while another new entry, Real Steel, came fourth with $2.1 million (£1.3 million).
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy rounded out the top five ($916,490/£572,806), but the remake of 1980s classic dance film Footloose trailed behind, debuting in sixth place ($736,434/£460,271).
