Jolie and Madonna receive Golden Globe nods

The main list of motion picture nominees were announced during a live telecast in America on Thursday (15Dec11) morning – and released by WENN – but a complete list put out by officials at the HFPA has since been made available.

Jolie’s directorial debut In The Land of Blood and Honey is up for Best Foreign Language Film, and Madonna and Elton John will go head-to-head in the Best Original Song category – for their work in W.E. and Gnomeo & Juliet respectively – alongside Mary J. Blige (The Help), Chris Cornell (Machine Gun Preacher) and collaborators Brian Byrne and Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs).

Silent film The Artist is the outright nominations leader with six nods, including Best Motion Picture (Comedy/Musical), Best Screenplay, Best Director (Michel Hazanavicius) and Best Performance By An Actor in the Comedy Or Musical category (Jean Dujardin).

The Help and George Clooney’s The Descendants have four nominations apiece.

Meanwhile, in the TV categories, British drama Downtown Abbey and Kate Winslet’s miniseries Mildred Pierce both picked up four nominations, while acclaimed US series Boardwalk Empire, Homeland, comedy Modern Family, The Hour and Too Big To Fail all landed three nods.

The 69th annual Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by comic Ricky Gervais on 15 January (12) in Los Angeles.
