Josh Gad supports friend who lost son in Florida school massacre

Josh Gad sent his support to his friend who lost his son in the Florida school massacre as he appeared at a town hall discussion on Wednesday (21Feb18).

The Frozen star’s family friend Max Schachter lost his 14-year-old son Alex on 14 February when former student Nikolas Jacob Cruz opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people in total.

Students from the school, their parents and teachers gathered together at a town hall in Sunrise, Florida for Stand Up: The Students of Stoneman Douglas Demand Action, which was hosted by CNN, to call for gun control and debate with politicians Marco Rubio, Bill Nelson and Ted Deutch.
During the event, Max read out a poem written by his son, and Florida native Josh sent his support via Twitter.

“Watching our family friend #maxschachter read his son Alex’s poem tonight is almost too much for me to bear,” he wrote. “Max, we are all with you. We love you. Your strength is incredible. Your son’s poetry is light in this darkness. #alexschachter.”

The 36-year-old provided a running commentary throughout the programme, encouraging others to watch the debate and heaping praise on the students for speaking out.

“These students are giving me more hope about the future than I have had in a long time. They don’t need it, but I laud their bravery, their eloquence and most importantly their leadership,” he posted.
“#studentstandup and we will continue to follow. You are a beacon of strength. And if anyone comes for these children with lies, conspiracy theories, and a general lack of human decency, you come for all of us.”

He also took aim at Florida’s Governor Rick Scott, calling him “an absolute soulless moron”, and said National Rifle Association (NRA) officials had embarrassed themselves on a national stage.
