Journalists’ group condemns Canadian ruling

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the world’s largest journalist group, has condemned a ruling by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission that permits television stations and newspapers that have the same owner to use a single reporter to cover a story. IFJ Secretary General Aidan White told the Associated Press in Brussels Monday: “Canadian consumers are going to be the losers in the process. … There is no way that journalists and media people who are trying to gather news and feed it out simultaneously for different news-gathering systems are going to be able to maintain quality of product.”
